Concert of Prayer

18 March 2007 2 Comments

Have you ever tried doing a concert of prayer?
I have done a concert of prayer before and they can actually be quite moving spiritually. It’s really nothing that I’m doing, but rather because I’m doing it, God uses it and impacts students.

So what do you do?

It’s probably best to schedule it on an off night, but will still work during your regular large group youth meeting. I use the whole meeting time to do one of these.

A concert of prayer is a combination of scripture, praying, and singing worship songs. I like to work through Acts 1:8.

  • I like to open with a song
  • Introduce to everyone what is taking place
  • Pray
  • Do 3 upper beat songs
  • Have students lift up praises
  • Song
  • Repentance- have students pray to be right with God before they continue
  • Then I have students pray for their Judea (school, home, family, friends)
  • Transitional song
  • Students pray for their Samaria (United States, leaders, any major issues that effect us her in the U.S.)
  • 1 or 2 more songs
  • Students pray for Utermost parts of the earth (This usually means missionaries and other churches in other countries)
  • 1 or 2 more songs
  • Close in prayer

There are many different variations of doing this so have fun. I usually like putting candles around to create a mood. It’s very important in my opinion to create the atmosphere for students to cry out to the Lord.

steve, for 2+ years I dedicated the first wed nite of the month to a COP. Actually, we called it “Concert of Prayer and Pizza.” We did 1 hour of a COP and backed it up with pizza.
