Survivor Lock-In

18 November 2007 23 Comments

The long awaited survivor lock-in! I have done this lock-in a few times now and it just gets better and better! To get a FREE copy of this lock-in I ask that you link back to me:

  1. Link back to me with these instructions: Use the text: Youth Ministry Resources – Notice when you click on the text it will go back to my site: http://www.youthministryideas.net To do this, simply place this simple html code on your blog or website:

<a href=”http://www.youthministryideas.net”>Youth Ministry Resources</a>

After you complete the item above please contact me and let me know where the link is at on your website or blog.

The only thing that I didn’t include was my talks that I have done for the lock-in as I couldn’t find them on file, but wanted to say that I hope that the reason that you are doing your lock-in is to reach students for Christ, so my messages are always focused on that. I have not had a lock-in where nobody raised a hand to ask Christ into their lives.

Prepare 2-3 months in advance if you want it to be great. Get a good team together to make it happen. Get as much stuff done as you can ahead of time so the day of the lock-in isn’t as crazy getting everything set-up. I would highly recommend a lock-in like this to junior high students even though you can do it with high school students too.

Make sure you think through each 3o min. of the night. Don’t forget things like, having money ready for change if you are charging them to come, tickets, training your volunteers on what to do, and being prepared for your talks.

When you do one of the three things you will get the document with these items:

  • Activities for Survivor Lock-In
  • Communist Church Game
  • Decorations for Survivor Lock-In
  • Example Prizes for lock-in
  • Games and Materials Needed For Lock-In
  • Point Records
  • Rules for Lock-In
  • Reward Challenge
  • Survivor Lock-In Schedule

Thanks to Paul, here’s a great visual of what this lock-in can be like:

i am a missionary in the Philippines working with YWAM ( Youth With A Mission ) we just finished an Amazing race ( Amazing Grace ) the youth loved it we are now going to concentrate on Survivor but with about 12 churches involved. I think GOD has given you ideas that we can use to fight back against all the technology that sucks young people in. thanks GOD BLESS YOUR MINISTRY

Thanks for sharing this. I’m excited to give it a try. Hey Steve Madelon, Would you also be willing to share your ideas that you did on the Amazing Race (Amazing Grace)?

  • Steve Madelon said:

hello Kristi, We started the race with a bible quiz, every question missed you had to go outside and catch a water ballon from a good distance then you would recieve the scripture to find the answer, and we also finished the race with a bible task writing with your opposite hand John 3:3-8. it allowed us to share the message about change, amzing gace came in when any team could not complete there task, they were offered grace and could go on and continue the race. in order for a team to be in the race you had to have an unbeliever on your team. We now have some new believers PRAISE THE LORD. GOD BLESS

This is a great idea. I am the youth director at my local baptist church. They have appointed me coordinator at our summer camp for the second year now. I had planned on doing a survivor theme, we already did a “faith factor” I dont have a blog to post the link on or a page but it will be spread around greatly at this camp. I was just wondering if there was any possible way I could get the info packet still. It was a great idea on your part.

  • Steve (author) said:

Ciera – Yes – I will send it to you via email.

I have a SMALL youth group, I’ll be thrilled if I get 8 kids at my lock in. (middle schoolers) Before I go thru all the trouble of setting up a website so I can post your link, are the games/activities going to work for this small of a group? So many of the resources out there don’t work for my small (but intimate! ;) group.

You can go to Youth Pastor .com and get some great ideas for a lockin. We are a small church and we do things like talant show, games, movies, cooking, rock band-Chrisitan and let to kids come up with games. Jen

We are just kicking off our second summer of SURVIVOR! We compete in games through the summer where the teams earn their food and supplies and end it with a campout. It has been a great draw to bring visitors to hear about the Lord. Thank you for your ideas and God bless!

  • Todd F said:

I appreciate your ideas that you allow people to use. I found it so late though as we did not know we were doing a lockin and had a week to prepare. The games went pretty well though. It was nice to have a complete package like you provided. I can see where it would be great during the summer too. We were plagued by cold and rain so some games we struggled with. Thanks for your assistance though. We really enjoyed it!
