An Overview on Youth Ministry Video Announcements

31 December 2007 No Comment

Above is an example of how Chris Whiddon (a great friend and volunteer in his church’s youth and adult ministry) does video announcements for his church and youth ministry.

Below Chris provides 7 steps that he believes are important in creating video announcements. If you would like to reach Chris to ask him questions about how he creates these announcements, he has willingly provided his cell # which is: 406-868-8587

Here is a quick run down for video announcements:

    1) Find a person that is creative and technical that is going to oversee the videos
    2) Get equipment
        – Video camera
        – Good computer for editing (can’t give you for sures on this as I have never purchased one)
        – Video editing software (I use Adobe Premiere and love it, but there are others out there)
    3) Gather information
        – Get the information that is needed for the video
    4) Pre production planning
        – Story board, script, or layout how the video is going to go (the main thing is have an idea on how to do it — you don’t have to have everything scripted, in fact my
            announcements are never scripted)
    5) Tape the announcements
        – Be prepared for what people you might need to help (I just put our camera on a tripod and get the camera shot set — I don’t have any extra bodies right now —
just me and the other person in the video)
    6) Edit the announcements
        – This is going to be the most challenging and most important part of the announcements. This is where you can make something look really good or bad and
really professional or not really professional.
        – You’ll need a talented individual to take this on. If you don’t have an experienced person, that is ok, but whoever it is needs to be willing to spend quite a bit of
time on figuring out the editing program and putting some creativity into the announcements.
    7) Export announcements to video, DVD, or whatever output is going to be used for the announcements to be viewed.

All of the above steps are something that I do and I am involved in every one of the steps. I gather the information, I storyboard the announcements, I am in the announcements, I edit the announcements, and I make sure the announcements make it to their proper destination. It doesn’t have to be the same person doing everything, but that is just how it works in our situation. It also makes it easier for me as I know exactly what we are doing in each step.

If you have any questions regarding how Chris does any of the steps he provided, I’ll have him reply to any comments.
