Modern Day Parable Videos

20 January 2009 3 Comments

I was speaking with a Jr. high student this after youth group and he came up with a cool youth ministry idea. He started explaining to me that it would be cool if we could start putting together some modern day parables with video.

I thought – wow- I’m going to post this on my blog.

I have not yet done any of these modern day parables, but found an example that fits pretty close (the ending is a little weird but you will get the idea of being creative):

Again the ending is dumb, but what a cool way to talk about parables. Jesus basically only spoke in parables and I often wonder about how much we too should be using stories to advance the kingdom of God. Think about what we Americans spend most of our entertainment on – MOVIES. A good movie can really get you to think about things, evoke feeling of sadness, happiness, excitement, ect…

Has anyone tried to do any modern day parables?

If you are going to try here’s what I suggest:

  1. Have someone that knows how to handle a camera.
  2. You will definitely want a person that knows how to edit your work so that you can add and take away things.
  3. I would try to keep it to 3:00 or less unless it’s really interesting and taking the place of your main talk.

I think this is a great idea. I know a lot of people who are working on putting together great videos for youth. If you want to see some professional youth group videos check out the Nooma stuff.
