Youth Bible Study
What are you currently doing to get youth to study the bible? Study the Bible? Yeah, anything we can do to motivate youth to study the Bible will be beneficial to their spiritual lives so I decided to brain storm some ways that they could get the word in their minds:
- Text them scriptures: Although maybe not every youth has a cell phone, you probably should notice that almost all do. So sending them a daily scripture via a youth ministry group text can really help them get more of God’s word in their minds. You may even be daring and send more then 1 a day! Think about all of the texts a student gets during the day and how their mind is thrown around with each text. You can have a chance to help keep their mind focused
- Challenge them to use YouVersion: I personally love YouVersion, but what makes YouVersion cool is that there are many different plans that you can choose to read from. You can create groups of friends so you can study the Bible together. You can do a live event with YouVersion so your students can follow along with their phones. YouVersion has had 25 Million installs as of August 2011 – so 25million have installed on their phones already – crazy I know but don’t overlook this as a great way to reach your youth.
- Utilize Facebook: There has been some negative feedback on Facebook being good for teens or not you can read that here, but a lot of youth use it and so if you have a youth page – encourage them to read their Bibles with your page. Link your passages you send out to YouVersion so that it has even more impact.
- Challenge Parents: Yep – still the most influential person in a student’s life is his or her parents or whomever is in charge in the home. I have often thought many times that maybe we should just have Wednesday nights or whatever your night is become a night for the parents so that they can turn around and better influence their children – wouldn’t that be radical but extremely difficult to do. But you can still contact parents and challenge them to challenge their kids to get into the word and study it. Parent’s need to be encouraged and they need to be reminded that it is their responsibility not the youth leaders to raise them up in the Lord and teach them.
- Get Them To Look In Their Small Groups: I hope and challenge you if you have a youth group of 20 or more you should be trying to break them up into small groups of 5-7 and within those small groups have the leader challenging them to be reading out loud the bible in front of their peers and to take questions and ask them to the group and even spin it so that you ask a question to one student and then after their response to throw it at another student asking them what they thought about what the first student said. Teens have a lot of questions and a lot more depth then what adults give them credit for.
Please add other things and ways to help youth get into the Bible and Study it by leaving your thoughts and comments below and share them on Facebook to bring others into the conversation.
